AR-VR Verticals – Disrupting Healthcare: Medicine promises to become the biggest vertical market for the use of VR.  Recent research has demonstrated that VR is changing healthcare outcomes by structuring it—by augmenting it—by replacing it.  We will discuss how advances in virtual reality are changing patient results.

Jerri Lynn Hogg PhD., Director, Media Psychology Graduate Program, Fielding Graduate University: How AR Can Empower Patients, Providing Better Diagnostics in Healthcare: By 2025 it is estimated that XR in healthcare will reach $5.1 billion. In 2017 healthcare was considered the second strongest vertical in terms of European funding and it continues to grow.  This talk will focus on the ways XR can be used to assist and empower patients, provide alternative treatments, and offer better diagnostics with a particular focus on AR.

Jerri Lynn Hogg is a media psychologist, director of the Media Psychology program at Fielding Graduate University, 2015 President of the American Psychological Association’s Society for Media Psychology and Technology, co-creator of Fielding’s Certificate in Brand Psychology and Audience Engagement , and co-author of Mad Men Unzipped. She integrates her passion for branding, augmented/virtual reality, technology, and digital environments with research to advance the understanding of the positive use of media and technologies and their physical, cognitive, and emotional impact. Dr. Hogg is a coveted industry speaker and with over 50 scholarly presentations on media psychology, is a pioneer in the field of Media Psychology.  She recently spent six months working with the U.S. Department of Defense Global Operations on an anti-terrorism simulation using narrative psychology to degrade and counter terrorist messaging in Iraq, Syria, and North Africa. Her current focus is on brand psychology strategies; augmented environment design solutions; and narrative messaging for positive change. Celine Tien is the founder and CEO of Tamadé, a digital therapeutics company focused on Virtual Reality-enabled Chronic Pain management. Celine got her start in VR as the director and writer of “Pippa’s Pan” one of the world’s first immersive Virtual Reality hybrid live-action films. “Pippa’s Pan” was selected for the 2017 Festival de Cannes VR Library Showcase, making Celine and her team the youngest director and production team at Cannes. The VR film experience also won 3rd place at the 2017 AT&T VR/AR Challenge at the AT&T Developer’s Summit. Previously, Celine worked in feature development at Oriental DreamWorks in Shanghai and DreamWorks Animation in Los Angeles. She is also the founder of the non-profit education-based organization: Zoom for Kids! Celine is a former film/TV actress and model. She graduated from Yale University.

 

Linda Durnell, PhD is a media psychologist, professor, serial entrepreneur and advisor to medical virtual reality (VR) start-ups.  She’s a Founding Partner at the Madison Lane Venture Group working to evaluate the potential of medical and clinical VR inventions.  Dr. Durnell’s current research is on the Emotional Reactions of Viewing a Crisis in Virtual Reality (VR), which she presented at Stanford Medical School and Harvard Medical School.Dr. Durnell has worked with technology and non-profit organizations in Silicon Valley for over 25 years and worked with the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) and Joint Staff to assess options in the cognitive space to disrupt and counter ISIL capabilities and train Psychological Operations (PO) operators.  Durnell is a frequent presenter at technology (AWE) and psychology conferences (APA) and lectures on the topics of virtual reality for social change, the neuroscience of immersive technology and how technology affects human behavior.

 

Lauren Evanow is a successful innovator and entrepreneur. She has founded or co-founded and successfully exited a number of companies that span a wide range of industries from medical devices manufacturing, manufacturing non-toxic environmental products for the paint industry, to land development and building construction. More recently, she is the co-founder of an artificial intelligence driven research engine to reduce the amount of time to do academic research which is still under development. Curious as to how artificially intelligent digital technology can be used to positively help humanity evolve, she is also serving as CEO of Lia Inc, an artificial intelligence company that is building conversational avatars to assist a person with their own personal development and self-transcendence based on the http://www.lovingai.org/ experiments with Hansen Robotics robot Sophia. Her driving goal and passion is to bring like minded people together in a collaborative manner to address global issues around human evolution and sustainable business practices. She also works and advises other thought leaders who are building disruptive technologies in the areas of health, energy and food/water as a means to address the unmet needs of underserved populations globally. She is the founding business advisor for the Consciousness Healing Initiative www.chi.is,  as well as a contributing advisor for the Transformative Tech Lab at Sofia University. She is the proud mother of 3 grown children and enjoys skiing, hiking, and biking.

 

Garry Hare, PhD. Director of the Media Psychology Graduate Program, Fielding Graduate University: Garry is the Director of Fielding Graduate University's Media Psychology Graduate Program and on the Media Psychology doctoral faculty. He focuses on the junction where cognitive science, information design and immersive technologies impact the visualization of complex data. He advises selected media companies, foundations and venture firms on strategy and the creative use and impact of immersive media, mobile augmented reality and the disruptive impact of real time media on social advocacy.  Over two decades, Garry has founded and/or held senior management positions with companies creating rich media content and enabling technologies. These solutions usher in new forms of entertainment, mobile communications and social impact. He was President and CEO of Amiga, Inc., Executive Vice President of Into Networks with worldwide responsibility for Broadband Media, President and COO of OZ.com, the creators of Helsinki 2000 (the first virtual world) and the Intel virtual museum project. Garry was founder and CEO of the award winning digital publisher, Fathom Pictures Inc., specializing in sports and education simulations. He was founding Managing Director and CEO of Philips Media Europe on behalf of Philips N.V.  As head of this European digital publishing company he built management and creative teams to support the creation and distribution of digital products throughout Europe. He has created digital products and/or advised companies such as LucasFilm, the Griffin Group, Philips N.V., Ericsson and Apple Computer, among many others, on new media content creation and strategy. Garry has held faculty positions at INCAE (an international campus of The Harvard Business School and The Harvard Institute of International Development), The University of Washington Graduate School of Public Policy and The University of Southern California Graduate School of Public Administration.  He began his career at the Walt Disney Company and holds a Ph.D. in Organization Behavior and Development from the University of Southern California.  Garry is affiliated with The American Psychological Association, The Broadcast Educators Association, CTIA, The National Association of Broadcasters, The Earth Institute, The Surfrider Foundation, The World Affairs Council, The Commonwealth Club, The Environmental Forum and others. As a producer, his work has been acknowledged with the Cindy Award, 5 InVision Awards, the NEVI, CDIA and Paris Super Show awards as well as Best Consumer Product at Japan’s Flower and Green. He is a frequent speaker on Innovation, Media and the impact of Real Time Data and Information at conferences around the world.
